Where have all the British Clubs gone? - by regular contributor Ron Griffiths

Any look through New Zealand Football archive material shows an impressive record of British Football Teams touring "down under". Rangers, Man United, England B sides Watford to name a few. This seems now like a 'Golden Era' for the game here. It is not like New Zealand is unknown to the Football world. After all we have had visiting Football dignitaries giving speaking tours around the 'traps' in recent times. And what about the Kingz and Knights flirtations with Chelsea and Charlton Athletic. A perfect opportunity wasted to invite them to tour in the off season.

What about money?. We cannot forget the amount of sponsorship available to British Clubs. But think of the revenue that Liverpool or Man U or Chelsea would pull in through the turnstiles any way. The potential and excitement would be phenomenal. Potential to generate more interest in our game, to attract more sponsorship and generate more income. Media would make a lot of money also through advertising. And New Zealand is an attractive Holiday destination in it's own right.

So, I send this message out to Club administrators. Yes flirt with British Clubs by all means, and then invite them over here for a 'date'!.
